Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine!

Are we playing this yet?
Becasue the demo alone is awesome. You guys should get it (off Steam) if you haven't already.

P.S. if you're in the UK you will neeed to go to www.spacemarine.com and register a forum account (the "honour guard") then go to www.spacemarine.com/demo once you've successfully completed registration to get a download code and instructions, because for reasons that are utterly beyond comprehension, you can't pre-order the game or demo from Steam in the UK (this is all THQs fault, BTW).

Not tried it yet, but did get Kill Team on the PS3 at the weekend and had great fun playing it in co-op on Sunday. Ended up being a good match too, I preferred the long distance killy power of the Sternguard with heavy weapon (the heavy plasma being my favourite, especially for the blinding flash with the special move), and my friend with up close and personal melee using the Librarian.

The problem I found with the missile launcher is that most of the time I couldn't see if I was hitting anything, there's so much blast glare it's nuts.

The meltagun on the techmarine I found a bit annoying though - takes far too long to kill stuff, they should be vapourised instantly and not catch fire like it's a flamer. Do like the tarantula though, damn handy when there's loads to kill as you can just slap it down and let it hose the area clear. :)

Bah, doesn't work. Steam says I already have the game in my library, which is blatantly false (especially as it said it on the very first attempt to use the demo game code), and it appears from the THQ forums that this is a pretty common message for UK residents when trying to access it. Grr.

EDIT: found that you have to put steam://install/55410 in your browser to install it, the Honour Guard codes are useless now as they were for early access only and today is "global" release day for the demo, and here in the UK there is apparently a contractual issue with Game.co.uk that stops the demo appearing in Steam via any searches. Using the direct install URL gets around that though, it's downloading and installing now :)

I find it funny... a few years ago, at least in the US, the GW retail store downplayed/degraded video games as a poor substitute for table top wargaming. Now, they are embracing it (see the Space Marine updates in the last WD).

What goes around, comes around...

Don't forget the right sounds should be FOOOSH and FREEEM, I'm just saying!

They are a poor substitute for tabletop gaming though. They do, however, make a nice supplement to it.

Also, GWs senior management continues to know absolutely nothing about video games; they're just lucky they didn't freak out and scare off Relic, because a) they do and b) Relic's people colletively love 40K.

Gave up on the Steam download, ended up downloading on the PS3 instead. That way I got to play on my 50" plasma instead of my 22" monitor so I could soak up the visuals :) Controls are a little awkward, but I guess that's because I play very few console games - a friend has lent me his spare PS3 to use as a media player for my blu-rays and streaming video. Got a chance to play for an hour before work, completed both missions and it was fun.

After having played the full game for a week, I can honestly say that it is the best new game I've played in a long time. I'd almost go as far as saying it is better than the expansions for DOWII, but I still have a preference for RTSes over 1st/3rd person action games so DOWII wins overall for me...

The campaign is fun and has an interesting story while the multiplayer takes some of the best elements from other popular games and makes them fit in to the 40K universe. I just wish I had more free time to play it AND be able to paint my models...
